"Suddenly!" - do you recall making any changes at all?
Can't think of an 'instant' solution Jim, but might be worth looking in
DevMan, TweakUI - if installed, or any other utility which might affect your
HDD's, at the Properties of each HDD and their respective partitions and
compare to see if your D: drive has any different settings applied.

Mart,
You reminded me that I relocated my Recent folder to D:, using Tweakui
1.33, and this is what caused the problem. Unfortunately, changing it
back to C: just transfers the problem to that Drive! I'm still working on
it.
Many thanks,
Jim

Oh dear!! - That option comes with a warning - "Carelessly changing a
special folder may render your system unusable" and then goes on to mention
multiple duplicated folders etc.
First thoughts are can you find an earlier SR point that you could get back
to - or perhaps, if you've got more than one Recent folder, you may have to
rename or even delete them.
Good luck Jim

Just a further suggestion Jim - at your own risk <g> - is to try renaming
(especially your 'Recent' folder(s)) using the old File Manager
(Winfile.exe) instead of Windows Explorer, both of which have totally
different behaviours. You may even have to look for 'faulty' 'Recent' paths
in your registry and delete them. Could be messy <g>

Fortunately, the problem seems to have resolved itself. After two or three
unproductive moves I finally have a functioning Recent folder on Drive D,
with none of the original problems.
I shall be a bit more cautious in future and I must try to remember to use
System Restore.....
Thanks again,
Jim

Good to know that it's working again Jim.
Following warnings/notes when using TweakUI - reproduced with
acknowledgement to the late Koldbear
1) Do *not* change the first icon from "My Documents" on the Desktop tab
2) Do *not* uncheck: Search Results on the Desktop tab
3) Do *not* hide the Tweak UI icon on the Control Panel tab
4) Do *not* uncheck: Show Control Panel on Start Menu on the IE tab
5) Do *not* uncheck: Shell enhancements on the IE tab
6) To move "My Documents" folder, right-click on the Folder, and click
Properties.
And I suppose a further one now :-
7) Take heed of the warning notice when Moving or Relocating special folders
or files <g>

Well said, and duly noted.
Thanks,
Jim.
