Hello:
Last few weeks - after having Cox tech change out an older modem - seems my
winME system started to act unstable.  Frequently when clicking on a site
from the quick start task bar - the little indicator in task bar would
depress, but system would freeze.
When clicking cont/alt/delete - the program that would be highlighted as not
responding would be IEX.  I run vs. 6.0.2 sp1.
In a few of these instances as I try to shut system down - have been getting
following notice  -

sharing - following users are connected to your computer - continuing will
disconnect them - Do You Wish to continue?   (\\MIHIR)

anyone ever heard of this?  I run a single desktop computer - no network.
Run Computer Assoc. anti virus and keep up with updates.  Just today noticed
system restore not making system restore points even though have not
disabled it in troubleshooting .  I check msconfig and does not appear to be
anything new running.

First suggestion would be to the Cox tech back again and fix it.

Second suggestion would be to confirm or better yet, uninstall and
re-install the latest WinMe compatible drivers for your 'new' modem.

Regarding System restore, although it may not (currently) be doing auto SR
points (for a number of reasons), are you able to make manual SR points AND
restore them?

Following notes, courtesy of Mike M :-

Give system restore the once over by carrying out the following quick test.
a) Create a shortcut on your desktop to a file.
b) Create a manual checkpoint
c) Delete the shortcut
d) Restore you PC to the checkpoint you created.
Was the shortcut restored?  Did you see any error messages?"
</snip>
