All had been working well.  I have made no changes to the computer.  But now
my System Restore has been not working properly.  I have all updates
installed.  First I noticed that I went from 7 days worth of back-ups to
losing a day, everyday. I tried adjusting the available memory and max out
the slid to no avail. ( disk has over 30 gigs of free space)  Now it only
shows back ups created on the present day.  When I checked if it would
restore with the back up generated, it took over 45 mins. for it to complete
the restore.

Any suggestions?

In itself this isn't a problem as older checkpoints should only ever be
used when desperate.

Now that's pretty extreme so let's try a few tests.
a) Check.count the number of checkpoints available
b) Create a shortcut on your desktop to a file.
c) Create a manual checkpoint
Could you create a checkpoint?
d) Delete the shortcut
e) Restore your PC to the checkpoint you created.
Was the shortcut restored?  Did you see any error messages?  How long did
the restore take?
f) Reboot your PC
Was the checkpoint retained?  How many checkpoints do you now have?  One
more than at a) above?

Sorry to not get back to you sooner..an emergency at work has taken me away
from my computer.  I will try your suggestions tonight.

Thanks

yes, there was a new check point maintained

After several days, all the checkpoints have disapeared

What utilities, if any, do you run on your PC on a regular basis, daily,
weekly and monthly?
What is the size of the C:\ drive and how much free space does it have?
How much space do you have allocated to the System Restore archive?
Have you recently installed or uninstalled any very large applications
such as a game?
I am ASSuming that you haven't reinstalled the 290700 patch as doing so
flushes the restore archive.

Do you use removable hard drives with the system?  If so and the system
mistakenly identifies them as "fixed" rather than "removable" removing or
disconnecting the drive will reset system restore and flush the archive.

Just the Comcast Virus & Firewall.  I get updates which requires me to
restart the computer 2 or 3 times a day.

C:\ = 40 gig  (30 gig free)

I have maxed out the System Restore slide.

Have not installed any applications.

No, have not re-installed patch.

Do not use removeable hard drive.
