I have a Samsung Cd Writer SW 252F. It was working
perfectly with Nero a few days back when I was runnin out
of disk space and I uninstalled Nero for some time. Then
when I wanted to bur a CD I reinstalled Nero and now it
says that it cant find win-aspi file "?.?" which is one of
Windows files. I use Windows ME and when I tried System
Restore it says u have to clear up some disk space 200 mb
before U can use Sys Restore is there any way I could
manually restore this file. In Nero info tool it says that
aspi installed is corrupted. When I run cd speed it says
cannot launch winaspi32.dll. PLs help. Also I searched for
winaspi on my machine and found onefile with name
winaspi.dll

go to Nero's website and download/install their ASPI driver. It's better
than the rather rough one that shipped with Windows, way back when.

Which files are you missing? Which version of Ahead Nero are you using?
You should be able to download a copy of Ahead's version of the aspi layer
from their ftp site (ftp://ftp.nero.com/NeroAspiEn.exe).
Alternateively Win Me's crude native aspi layer consists of the following
three files, all dated 8 Jun 2000:
WNASPI32.DLL
WINASPI.DLL
APIX.VXD
Adaptec's "proper" ASPI layer contains the above three files plus ASPIENUM.VXD
in addition.
You can extract new copy of these three files from the Win Me cab set.
Wnaspi32.dll and winaspi.dll are contained in WIN_16.CAB of the Win Me cab set
and apix.vxd in WIN_20.CAB and can be restored using MSConfig | General |
Extract File ... and following the prompts. The "cab" files are in the Win9x
folder on the Win Me CD and/or in a sub-folder of Windows\Options. See MS
KB129605 - "HOW TO: Extract Original Compressed Windows Files"
(http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=129605). Wnaspi32.dll and winaspi.dll
belong in your windows\system folder and apix.vxd in the
windows\system\iosubsys folder.
