System keeps freezing/error messages

I was using win98 with no problems, have scince up graded
too win ME.But now system keeps stopping and won,t
respond, plus keep getting error messages i.e
kernell.32dll, explorer has caused error and will now
close, plus many others... Any help on how too get my comp
to work properlly would be gratefully received..
