More to the point, a corupt inbox. find the dbx file after removing
anything you want to save and delete it. OE will make a new one for you.

I get the same thing with newsgroups. Some of them display that there's
1 or 2 news items waiting on the server more than there is.

I see that in news more than mail, usually a news server glitch that clears
itself, Xnews here.
