Error when shutting down windows

Everytime I shutdown, I get a blue screen with the
following error message:

vwin32(05)+000012D0 Error: OE: 0028: C02A44A8

What can I do to fix this error? Any ideas? I noticed
that there were lots of other people experiencing the same
error, and the advice which was given seems too advanced
for myself to attempt! Anything simple out there to solve
this error?

Certainly explore the other suggestions you get in this thread, but I too
had shutdown problems until I did two simple things.

[1] I disabled DMA on my cd-rom device.

[2] Close all windows and wait atleast 40 seconds before doing a Shutdown.
(MS had a "delay" patch that was supposed to deal with this problem, but the
patch did not make any difference on my pc.)
