Hello,
I am sitting here with a troublesome sound problem.
Motherboard MS-6323 with onboard sound + Windows ME.
I have installed ME, and the Via 4in1 drivers. Finally tried installing the
sound drivers and it is Hell !!!.
When I begin the installation, I get the message that "VIA AC'97 Audio
chipset is not enabled on this system! Please enable it first on the Bios
then run this setup again."
Meanwhile Windows installs the VIA AC 97 Audio Controller(WDM) which I see
from Device Manager by Sound/Games..... under the link is only Controller +
Joystick.
What I do is delete the windows installation and restart the PC; I enter
the BIOS and in the Advanced Setup there is :
Onboard AC 97 Audio -Enable/Disable/Auto
Codec variable Rate   -Enabled
Onboard Legacy Audio- Enabled
MPU 401-  Disabled.

I have tried onboard ac97 audio on Enabled and also on Auto but it doesn't
seem to do the trick. I have enabled MPU 401 but no way.
What am I missin out? Drivers are from the MSI site.
The board was originally with Packard Bell (IMedia) stuff, but the harddisk
crashed and there is a new harddisk. The restore stuff is all gone with the
old hdd. Of course the guarantee period is years over so no support of
contact. PC works fine in all aspects except the Sound.
Any tips appreciated !!!!!!!

Sammy
Set all BIOS sound options to Enabled.
Reboot to Safe Mode
Open Device Manager
Remove ALL Sound &Multimedia devices
Remove ALL error-flagged devices
Remove ALL entries in the 'Other Devices' branch - if present
Reboot to Normal Mode - Windows will reinstall the required drivers,
hopefully curing your problem.

Thanks Noel,
I have tried that.
Rebooted and allowed windows to work but then it only ends up like I said
installing the AC97 Audio controller + Joystick.
When I try to run the setup driver from MSI, it says that  "VIA AC'97 Audio
chipset is not enabled on this system! Please enable it first on the Bios
then
run this setup again."  and that is the end.

hmm m- I'd use the MSI updater utility ( that also comes on the CD with the
motherboard), and see what that has to say.

I realise I'm coming to this thread over a year late, but I just though
I'd point this out for the benefit of Googlers everywhere looking fo
help on this subject...

There are multiple versions of the MS-6323, and not all of them use th
VIA sound chip.  I suspect this board has the Creative CT5880 on board
and that's why your driver says the VIA AC97 "isn't enabled"..

That was one of the reasons why I recommended that the OP use the MSU update
utility to check   for drivers....shame he never responded!
