files in folders disapeared!

When I open up a folder like My Docs, the bottom of the
folder says ther are 58 items in the folder but they are
not visable. When I open in safe mode I can see them.
What gives?

Are the file types shown under menu TOOLS>>Folder Options>>File types?

Angus,
Thanks for taking the time. Under menu TOOLS>>Folder
Options>>File types I see lots of files listed. They do
not match the names of the files in the original folder.
What specificly should I be looking for?
