hard disc problems

i have had something writting to my hard drive every 1-3
minutes. stops defrag and scan disc from running. unknown
source.
any one have an idea what could writting to the hard
drive by itself. even had the drive cleaned out and re-
programed.
been on going for years.

Rich,

Try running defrag and scandisk from safe mode. Your problems could be
due to either your AV or firewall application writing logs to the
partition you are defragging.

Hi, Mike:

I found that I had to defrag (ScanDefrag in my case) in safe mode AND turn
off my DSL modem. Even in safe mode, I was getting a few "restarting --
drive's contents have changed" episodes. Can't imagine what would be running
in safe mode, but disabling the modem seemed to do the trick.
