Greetings All:  I run Windows Me and I am a subsciber to Norton Anti-virus
2003.  My computer is infected with a relatively weak virus called
bloodhound.exploit 6.  The anti-virus software cannot remove it.  Symantec
tells me to go to Microsoft for the removal tool.  I have downloaded the
removal tool but without Windows MX it cannot be opened.
Can anyone suggest a way to get rid of the virus?

Where has Symantec found the 'infected' files?
Have you installed the patch that Symantec pointed you at?

Have you been to Windows Updates and installed ALL the Critical patches for
your system?
Download and run Belarc Advisor (www.belarc.com) to see what your current
update status is.

I'm not aware of any removal tool from Microsoft or whether one even
exists as the problem is how Internet Explorer handles a maliciously
crafted compiled help file.  What Microsoft has released is a patch for
Internet Explorer that removes that vulnerability.  For more details see
Microsoft Security Bulletin MS04-013Cumulative Security Update for Outlook
Express (837009)
(http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms04-013.mspx).  This
patch can be downloaded from the Windows Update site or from the Microsoft
Downloads Centre.  That for IE6 SP1 can be found at
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=925628BD-1B5F-4B21-8DB6
-EDE1C73F97B5&displaylang=en

and that for IE5.5 SP2 at
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=88D8F9DC-589A-4CE5-BB04
-CCEDCB8ADDBA&displaylang=en
