Now you wear the jacket, Heather, you've won it, fair and square.
Thanks for the wake-up call.

Hey, Harry, Figgs is just following in her grandmother's footsteps:
"Before the bakery doodads in the oven finish, check for SpywareBlaster
updates!"

It's an old Canadian housewife adage!  It's something Elaine has drilled
into her!  Every Canadian daughter does it to her closest lucky witch.
-----

BTW,
I recently installed Webroot's Spy Sweeper on another's WinME machine, as
requested (permitted) by the user. My first experience with this tool.   I
was impressed when it found 26 critical items missed by Ad-aware SE, Spybot
1.3, CWS, and BHODemon.  Removing these pests stopped the final, irritating
browser ad servers on the machine, in particular, the one leading to www dot
_xzoomy_dot_com.  This was a real PITA, here.
This tool costs $US 20.00 retail this week near here at CompUSA.

This success prompted the teenager's mother to add it immediately to her XP
machine.  She wanted the active blocking component, also.

(Did I remember to say the teenager's box had 1277 pests on the first
Ad-aware scan and another 500 after reboot and a Spybot scan?  I couldn't
connect to the web for ten minutes before a hundred or more pests were
installed each time.)

The largest number of spyware pests detected, in a single scan,  that I have
read, was for 3000 pests.

Jack,
A friend of mine dl'd the Spy Sweeper trial and sent me the info on
it.  What I found rather odd is the fact that the ad says that the average
computer has 26 adware/spyware components on it.   The friend said that the
proggy found 26 items on his machine (and he keeps it very clean).  Now you
have found the same number on yours.....26.  Makes me wonder if the program
itself isn't finding something it placed.....hmmmmmm.   Also, it seems a
little pricey for $20/year, if you want to continue getting updates.   BTW,
I had him send me the names of some of the items it found and I could find
none of them on my machine using regedit.

Thank you for the report, heirloom. Spy Sweeper  is a new tool to me, and I
will keep your comments, esp. the "26 item list" prominantly in mind as I
proceed, ... and read.  Yours is the first notice of this "coincidence" that
I have seen.
Makes me want to buy a copy and send to you for testing.  Or you can get the
free trial.  Are you game?

$20.00 is at the upper end of what I wish to pay annually for updates --$10
I will pay gladly, for an excellent tool.

Post your list of the suspected pests to me privately, for future use.

Hi Jack.....I believe that is the one someone was shilling on the antivirus
news group and I questioned it.  Seems it ALWAYS finds pests, but you have
to pay to get rid of them.

Why pay when Spybot and AdAware keep my computer clean.  I will go back in
Google Archives if you want, but it can't be more than 2 or 3 weeks ago.

Oops.....I hear Santa!!  He always delivers to Canada first, grin.

"For additional perspective, we checked in with David Moll, CEO of Webroot
Software, makers of Webroot Spy Sweeper, PC Magazine's current Editors'
Choice for antispyware. Mr. Moll told us that the acquisition will benefit
the antispyware field as a whole by lending it added legitimacy and
visibility, and by raising Microsoft's own "security IQ." He points out that
where Microsoft at one time suggested that the security enhancements in
Windows Service Pack 2 would lessen the need for spyware protection, the
company now says antispyware will "complement the enhanced security
features" of SP2."

I'll have to get them from my friend again and I will send them to you.  I
guess this little app keeps a log of what it finds.......if he still has it,
I'll send it on.   I just seemed all too coincidental to me, but, I have to
admit.......it makes a great marketing ploy.

That's quite some experience you've had, Jack.
Spy Sweeper's performance is impressive and recommendable.
As for Figgs, she can keep on doing what she has been all along.
She's allright in my book as I realize, your comments are privileged.
Thank you, all.

We are chuckling at your remark.  Elayne and I have finished stuffing the
turkey and it is merrily cooking away.....company in 30 minutes and we are
not even dressed.....only the turkey is, grin.

Psssst......E. is also a witch......a junior one!!  (VBG)  She comes by it
honestly from her English/Scottish heritage.

Off to find something to wear.....naked is NOT in this year, lol.

Cheers.....Heather and the baby witch.

I wouldn't think naked would be in anytime at the moment if you have a
foot of snow around you <g>

Well, I think naked is always in among the best-intentioned of folk, and if
you will host, Figgs, Nancy & I will move heaven and earth to coerce Loon to
travel north from Texas so we can all gather in the sauna, imbibing ice
wine,  followed by swimming in the snow, and  donning our gayest duds before
visiting the ...

Niagara Icewine Festival
January 14 to 23, 2005
http://www.grapeandwine.com/

The Niagara Grape & Wine Festival is a non-profit organization that runs a
series of seasonal wine festivals in the Niagara region. The Niagara Icewine
Festival, the Niagara New Vintage Festival, and the Niagara Wine Festival
attract 100,000's of visitors to the area each year.  Three times voted one
of North America's Top 100 Events by the A.B.A. and Ontario's Cultural Event
of the Year by Attractions Canada (1999, 2000 and 2002).

Those crazy Brits will just have to get here on their own if they want some
New Years'  fun, too!
We can get Loon a new suit from L.L. Bean, if he insists.
All you really need is sunscreen, ...   and not even that if you are a
witch!

ROFL!!  I just saw this.  Naked is IN when one is 20 and slim and
trim......I think we all would scare the bejeebers out of each other at our
respective ages......or are Italians better preserved???

The ice wine will be your contribution!!  None of us can afford it, lol.

Trying to picture the Loon in *gay duds*........bwa ha ha!!  I can safely
say this because he is in West Texas at the moment.

Off for another gourmet dinner.  This child of ours is costing us a fortune
in food, lol.  Mandarin Restaurant......home of the largest, best chinese
buffet in Canada!!  Shrimp, lobster, crab, roast beef.....and so on.  Not to
mention sushi and all the unusual Asian dishes they do.  All you can eat as
well.

Cheers......the Naked Maja!!

Oh...Joanie, I have one twin bed......so you can have that.  The rest can
sleep on the floor, lol.
