Hello,

Just curious, what is the size of ME before install. Get out your CD,
and let me know the size to the kb. Do have a OEM version but maybe
missing a file when installed.

Thanks, Phil

The total size of the Win Me CD is irrelevant.  What is important is the
size of the Win9x folder on the CD as this contains the Win Me cab set.
The remainder is little more than fluff and contains nothing more than
demos and the like with the exception of the add-ons folder which if
present (it is on all Microsoft Win Me CDs but not all OEM CDs) and
contains MSBackup and the IPP print files amongst others and the small
drivers, autorun and tools folders.

The size of the Win9x folder is likely to vary between the MS and OEM CDs
as many OEMs will have included additional drivers and the like.  As to
the difference in size between a full Win Me CD and an upgrade Win Me CD
you are looking at a difference of a few bytes only in one, perhaps two,
files.

The size of the Win9x folder on a full Microsoft Win Me CD is 203,847,868
bytes including the OLS folder.

Thanks Mike,

I came up with the figure of 157 MB, or 163,938,304 kb.That is
with the cab files.

Promblem it works fine, just have the update support button
missing. Gives me a warning on every startup.Think it's in
the registry.Other than that everything works dandy.

Any help I would appreciate it.

bye, Phil

I suspect you excluded (or do not have) the OLS folder contained within
the Win9x folder.  Excluding the OLS folder the size of the Win9x folder
is 160,613,945 bytes.  The OLS folder contains the files required to set
up AT&T (3,883,413 bytes) or AOL (39,350,510 bytes) as an On Line Service
(much outdated as they date from 2000).

Your 163,938,304 bytes suggests that you probably have an OEM CD with a
driver or two added.

I have no idea though what you mean by "update support button".  Perhaps
you could explain.  This sounds as if it might have been an OEM addition.

Phil,

The file reg32.dll is not part of the Win Me operating system.  Win 98 &
98SE contain a file with this name as does Windows 2000.  I am also aware
that certain older HP scanners include such a file as part of their
drivers.  The various versions involved are:
Windows 98SE v4.10.1998 dated 23 April 1999
Windows 2000 v 5.0.2150.1 dated 30 Nov 1999
HP PrecisionScan v4.11.0.0 dated 2 Sep 1998.

It would appear that you have an application that requires the file
reg32.dll but have a second application that has installed an incompatible
version of this file and that this second incompatible is what is causing
the error you are seeing.
