how the hell do you stop pc health check from starting up so often on me.

The PCHealth Data Collection service is what you're seeing - and  it's a
fairly useless piece of the OS.
To disable it, you need to do so in two places at once...
1) Scheduled Tasks - disable/delete the entry there
2) MSCONFIG - in the Startup list, uncheck the PCHSchd.exe entry - click OK,
and reboot
That should kill it!

Noel, does this PCHealth have anything to do with the Restore functioin?

Not Noel, but the answer is no.  As Noel has already mentioned what you
are referring to is the PCHealth Scheduler for Data Collection rather than
the more general term PCHealth which includes not only system restore and
system file protection but also Help & Support, Automatic Updating and
PSS.

Okay, forgive me for being slow, but will stopping PCHealth from loading on
start-up, impede my Restore function from starting?

No - they are two entirely different applications.

None of which Jack, regrettably, provide any details about the PCHealth
Scheduler for Data Collection.  :-(  For some reason Microsoft have never
felt it worthwhile informing their users by a KB article or otherwise why
they have Win Me (and also XP) set up to collect what is for most if not
all users totally useless information.

And what is it about Fortune 500 <MARKETING> that you don't quite yet
understand?

As I said to Nomad, we are very lucky to have you and Noel around.
We are very lucky that you didn't burn your machine and buy a Mac when you
first began having SR problems back in the ME beta days.
If Nomad will read these three articles, and peruse a few of your
too-many-to-count threads about them, and asks you a few questions, he will
know more than 99% of the posters in these ngs, in a very short time.  But
you already know that, too.

Heck, if we could clone you, most of our WinME computer problems could be
answered RSN.

Say Hi, for me, to your young ladies, for the new year.  Watched "Tinker,
Tailor,..." the other day on DVD just to remember that competent, honorable
men still exist.  Even if they disagree about fundamentals.
Very difficult to do so on this side of the pond just now, where the
opposite has reached a new highwater mark for normalcy, in modern history.
"You go to war with the army you have, ...,  etc."

I will do Jack as and when I see them next year or whenever.  :-)

I haven't seen or read Tinker, Tailor, ...  for some time myself but I am
a great fan of John LeCarré (or should that be David Cornwell).

That just leaves me to wish you and yours a Happy & Prosperous 2005.
