If my computer won't shut down, what are my options? The power button isn't
working. I've tried ctrl-alt-delete to no avail. Do I have to unplug it?!
What are the dangers of doing so? Please help.

You need to determine why it will not shut down using normal methods.
Meanwhile press the power button and hold it in for 15-20 seconds.

(5 seconds is the usual requirement for the manual shutdown - not 15!)

I followup Noel by reminding that the five second press requirement to
manually shut down the PC is usually a setting in the BIOS setup program.
The alternative is "Instant Off".
