I'm not so think as I smart I was....the fax problem was not with the
clients machine at all, it was a setting in my software.  When I faxed long
distance and was successful, it was to another area code (my state has one
area code only).  When I faxed long distance within the state, the software
was recognizing the long distant number as a local number since we shared
the same code even though we were 400 miles apart.  I removed reference to
my area code so the software didn't know where I lived, and adjusted the
phone book to reflect the client's  long distance fax number
(1-701-xxx-xxxx) and voila!, a solid connection!  Sometimes I overlook the
simple solution.  BTW, the client bought a new fax machine and I'm not going
to tell him it was for naught!!  Thanks to all who chipped in with
suggestions.

Bart,

It wasn't me who was helping you with your fax problem.  I think it was
Mart.  Nevertheless I'm pleased to read you've now managed to find the
reason for your problem and therefore been able to fix it.  Well done -
and I don't blame you for not telling your client the real reason.  :-)

Hi Mike - Yes, it was me who got involved with this issue.

I've just looked at my original reply to Bart's very first post and guess
what?

"May seem a daft question but ....  Are you sure that he is actually
receiving your fax call - in other words, are you dialling the correct
number?"

Well done Bart!  I'm glad you got there - eventually <g>

Sorry, Mike, it was indeed Mart who was there first.  Maybe I need a little
vacation!  Thanks again.  You folks are terrific!
