Just an FYI for those using ZAPro, especially on an XP box........this is
just in case it is happening with Me, as well.   There is a situation when
using OE that the True Vector portion of ZAPro (vsmon.exe) will begin using
up all your cpu cycles, causing the machine to bog down severely or even
lock up.  Zone Labs is aware and promises a fix on the next update.  Until
then, the workaround is to disable "Email Protection" (really not needed if
your AV scans email, which may be part of the problem).

I performed the workaround and have not had the problem since.....must admit
that it only happened a couple of times before and was cured with a reboot,
temporarily.    Anyway, if you are using ZAPro, latest version, and your
machine is bogging or freezing, use a process viewer to see if <vsmon.exe>
in running away with the processor, 50+%..........if so, use the workaround.

Massive cpu usage by vsmon can also happen in a number of other
circumstances heirloom, not just when e-mail protection is enabled.  I've
noticed this mainly on XP boxes running a couple of specific applications,
I've also read that this problem can happen where P2P applications are
making a lot of connections to the net.  It would be nice if these
problems were also fixed in the next public build but at the moment I'm
not sure as to whether I'm going to be renewing my subscription for
another year for the Pro version.

Thanks Mike.    Do you know if this issue is affecting Me, as well???   I
have never noticed the 'runaway vsmon' until just recently and I have been
using ZAPro for, at least, a couple of years.  What are these 'specific'
applications you reference? (would like to see if I am using them).  I use
no P2P apps, so, no probs there.   I was pretty sure mine was a result of
Alwil's Avast! AV email scanner conflicting in some manner with ZAPro's
email protection.  Also, it is so infrequent that it happens, it may be some
specific circumstance of events that I am initiating.  All I know for sure
is, it is happening to a number of folks....
especially on XP boxes.
I have noticed since putting my XP and Me box behind the Linksys wired
router, the ZA log is virtually non-existent with events.
Makes me ponder the value of a software firewall when used in conjunction
with the router.  Oh yeah, and I just renewed for two years on the
'Pro'.......save a few bucks.
Heirloom, old and the Me group is still
the best
