I have a friend send this email asking for help. This is all the info I
have. Any suggestions?

----------

I'm trying to reformat my computer. For some reason I can't get past the A:\
prompt.
I did move many of files and folders onto my secondary hard drive for safe
keeping and I have the disks for some of my software.

However everytime I type in at A:\> format c I get the message "parameter
format not found" I just printed out more directions from another website
I'll try later. Tomorrow if my own computer is not ready I'll come over and
use my neighbors computer again to check my email. Please, if you can get me
past this prompt setback, I'd appreciate any help

Are you getting your Daily Brief?

The correct command is
FORMAT  C:
that is a C followed by a colon.  No colon and one sees what your friend
reports as seeing.

Your friend may want to have a look at:

The file CLEANHD.TXT which is in the Win 9x folder on the Win Me CD and
also as KB271673 - "Windows Millennium Edition Cleanhd.txt File Contents"

Also KB255867 - "How to Use the Fdisk Tool and the Format Tool to
Partition or Repartition a Hard Disk"
