Hi,
On my friends pc their sound has suddenly stopped working, and they have
noticed that the sound icon is missing in the syst tray. The speakers are on
and connected.
I had this problem last year but I have xp and have forgotten what i d/led
to fix it.
Can some one kindly supply me with some sort of fix for this please? I will
pass it onto them.
Many thanks

Katie:

Click >Start>Settings>Control Panel>Sounds and Multimedia and check the box
"Show volume control on the taskbar", then click OK.

In that case you'll probably have to check the BIOS.
Someone more competent will have to pick it up from here.

Ok thanks, but I am sure when I had that problem I never did anything like
that, I think it was just something like a script or an exe. that i d/led to
fix mine. But maybe thats is because I have XP and not ME.
Thanks for your help anyway

Reboot to Safe Mode
Open Device Manager
Remove ALL Sound &Multimedia devices
Remove ALL error-flagged devices
Remove ALL entries in the 'Other Devices' branch - if present
Reboot to Normal Mode - Windows will reinstall the required drivers,
hopefully curing your problem.

Thanks so much, I thought that it would be a case of just d/ling something
like I did with mine in xp.
I will tell them to try all that has been said here.
Thanks again
