Check in MSCONFIG to see where the reference to it in the Startup list
lies - then remove the reference from the source (or if you're unsure, just
uncheck the entry in the Startup listing)

Hi Noel
I have looked through MSCONFIG startup items and there is nothing in there
which it could be connected to, the main things that are enabled on startup
are mainly Norton, Task Mon and a couple of other standard things, have tried
unticking them but with no change. Any other ideas?
Thanks

The references are there - believe me! (I was one of the first to find that
particular variant)
If you can't find them there, use MSINFO32 and copy paste the startup
section of a saved output to your response.

Matt,
Quite possibly because you have chosen to install one of the worst AV
applications that is publicly available and can cause major problems when
installed on Win Me. In this case it would appear that Norton has as
usual has quite possibly failed to do its job properly and left the entry
used to launch the virus in the startup axis.
Use MSConfig (Start, Run, enter MSConfig in the box and click OK), open
the startup tab and look for and uncheck any entry that references the
file ibm00003.exe. Click OK, Apply and reboot. Hopefully you will not now
see the message about ibm00003.exe. Ignore the message about being in
selective startup mode and check the box not to display the message again.

Ok thanks guys, will have another look but i already thought of that and
could not see any reference to it in my Run/MSCONFIG startup items and there
are only about 3 items ticked to startup on startup. Many thanks

There should be many more that 3 items checked - particularly with Norton
installed!

If you've really only got three entries in MSConfig startup checked then
you have REAL problems far greater than having the Norton virus and
ibm00003 installed.

All the ones you have unchecked in the past, especially all those that
form part of the operating system and allow it to perform as intended.
Alternatively why not follow Noel's suggestion and post the list to this
thread so we can tell you which you should have checked.

No one here is a real computer technician if you think there are any
references to ibm00003.exe in the Registry/Startup or has anything to do with
Nortons. IT DOESN'T. Learn how to really work on pcs before advising
someone to do something to their system that will cause them more problems
then what you started with.

What are you raving about and what relevance does your post have to my
reply? None. It would seem that you have problems and not with the
operating system.
> Learn how to really work on pcs
And you think you do? You should start by learning to make coherent and
sensible posts to newsgroups. As it is your post is simply meaningless
twaddle which would suggest that you are the clueless one around here.

I have the same problem and I removed the startup item for ibm00003.exe in
MSCONFIG and that did not cause the error window to dissappear upon reboot.
That's why I'm reading this thread.
I'm looking at the "Microsoft System Information" -> Startup Programs.
Here's what I have:
TClock Startup Group "C:\My Documents\TClock\TClock.exe"
WinZip Quick Pick Startup Group "C:\Program Files\WinZip\WZQKPICK.EXE"
Yahoo! Pager Registry (Per-User Run) "C:\PROGRAM FILES\YAHOO!\MESSENGER\
YAHOOMESSENGER.EXE" -quiet
ScanRegistry Registry (Machine Run) C:\WINDOWS\scanregw.exe /autorun
TaskMonitor Registry (Machine Run) C:\WINDOWS\taskmon.exe
SystemTray Registry (Machine Run) SysTray.Exe
LoadPowerProfile Registry (Machine Run) Rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,
LoadCurrentPwrScheme
StillImageMonitor Registry (Machine Run) C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\STIMON.EXE
VortexTray Registry (Machine Run) ASP4TRAY.EXE
LexStart Registry (Machine Run) Lexstart.exe
LoadQM Registry (Machine Run) loadqm.exe
Share-to-Web Namespace Daemon Registry (Machine Run) C:\Program Files\Hewlett-
Packard\HP Share-to-Web\hpgs2wnd.exe
APVXDWIN Registry (Machine Run) "C:\Program Files\Panda Software\Panda
Antivirus 2007\APVXDWIN.EXE" /s
LoadPowerProfile Registry (Machine Service) Rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,
LoadCurrentPwrScheme
SchedulingAgent Registry (Machine Service) mstask.exe
PSIMSVC Registry (Machine Service) "C:\Program Files\Panda Software\Panda
Antivirus 2007\PSIMSVC.exe"
While typing this, I just searched the registry using regedit -> find ->
imb00003a.exe and came up with no results. I am virus free but the error at
startup is somewhat of a concern since I have tried the normal ways of
removal. Let me know any other thoughts you may have short of a reformat.
MegaData - 27 Sep 2006 21:03 GMT
Okay, cool! There was no "a" in ibm00003a.exe for it was ibm00003.exe which
was in my registry. Now deleted. :D
