Dear Everyone,

I ran a check on my computer with Belarc Advisor. According to Belarc,
Microsoft security hotfix 329115 failed on my computer, and I need to
reinstall it. Following the link provided led me to security bulletin
MS02-050. I discovered that said security update, to fix a Certificate
validation flaw which might permit identity spoofing, does indeed apply to
Windows ME. But when I clicked the link to do this, it simply led to the
automated Microsoft update page, which does not seem to be of the opinion
that I need any critical updates.

My guess is that the automated update views the update as installed properly
and working, whereas Belarc detects that it's a failed update.

What do I do? Should I assume (contrary to my suspicions) that the automated
update is more reliable than Belarc, and forget about it?

Sensible would seem to be to redo the update manually, which at any rate
shouldn't do any harm. Except--how would I do it? Haven't the foggiest. The
microsoft security bulletin just tells you to click a link leading you to the
automated update page.

I have Windows ME because the base computer is a 200MMX, which can't handle
a more modern operating system.

Help, please.

You can download the patch from the Windows Update Catalogue
(http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/catalog/en/default.asp).  You will
find it listed just over halfway down in the Win Me, Critical Updates and
Service packs section.
