I deleted some items off my start up list and when i rebooted the pc it now
comes up with ...Error loading Explorere.exe   You must reinstall windows.
When I click ok i get the following message.... A required .DLL file,
c:\windows\system\SHLWAPI.DLL was not found.   The pc then freezes and I have
to shut down manually.  I have tried starting in safe mode bit exactly the
same thing happens....I am running Windows ME on a HP Pavilion 7880

If you're lucky the following procedure should get you back up and running

Explorere.exe is associated with malware.

Possibly - but I suspect that it's a typo, since the correct spelling is
used in the Subject line
Explorer.exe is Windows Explorer

Either make one using Add/Remove Programs | Startup Disk or if for some
reason that doesn't work you can download the image of an OEM startup disk
from www.bootdisk.com.  Download the image to your desktop, double click
and follow the prompts to transfer the image to a floppy.

It's not really difficult.

Go to www.bootdisk.com and the very first line reads:
DOS/Windows9X/Me/NT/2K/XP Excellent Bootdisks
Click Bootdisks.
One the next page you will find Windows Me OEM | Mirror1 | 2 | 3

What is telling you to remove the floppy?  Just inserting a floppy
shouldn't bring up a message like that.  Double click on the downloaded
file, bootme.exe, and a window should pop up that reads "Insert floppy to
write", do this and then click OK.  If the disk isn't empty a box will pop
up saying "Disk is not empty, all data on your disk will be lost.  Do you
wish to continue?" Yes or No, If the disk is empty or you type Yes to the
previous question you will se a box pop up saying that Drive A is being
written to.

Nowhere that I am aware of does running bootme.exe create a message saying
to remove the floppy.

Sorry...I have managed to save the download to disc...its just when i put it
in my pc it either says eject to continue or it bypasses the disc and goes
straight to the ''error''

Again, download to your desktop, click and run the downloaded file
bootme.exe and follow the prompts.  Do NOT download to a floppy or copy
the file to a floppy but instead double click the downloaded file.

Why not?  All you are doing is creating a bootable floppy and you can do
that on any PC.  Until you have done that there is little point in
continuing.

> or should i just throw away the pc.....desperately...

Perhaps you should consider that if you are unable to follow the procedure
to create a boot floppy disk and instead take up knitting! <g>  Nah, of
course not, all you have to do is follow the oft repeated instructions on
what to do and you'll have that floppy.
