For a while now, while viewing pages in my IE6 and wanting to print a
selection I get the following error and have no idea what to do: An error has
occured in the script on this page Line:,char, Error. URL:
res://c:\\windows\system\SHDOCLC.DLL/preview.dlg and then asks do you want to
continue running script on this page, yes, no. Finally getting no where, I
give up and cut and past in word for printing. Any idea what this is all
about? Thanks.

Please supply the whole message.
The line number you left out is relevant.

Alan, the numbers I supplied change depending upon what I am trying to do.
For example just now I try to open my Nethood, and I got the same message
with different numbers: Line:206, char:21, Error:unspecified, code: 0, URL:
file;//c:window\web\nethood.htt. This is wiered. Any idea?

try this
Start|Run - type the following....

RESGSVR32    OLE32.DLL

Click OK
and reboot - see if that helps

The cause of this error is, I believe, rather different from the one you
previously reported and could be because you are using "web view" and have
used TweakUI to alter the first icon displayed on the desktop placing My
Computer before My Documents.  Alternatively the nethood.htt file might be
damaged.

For more details see:
KB275557 - "Internet Explorer Script Error Message When You Open the My
Pictures Folder" (http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=275557). This also
applies to Nethood and some other special folders.
KB300423 - "Internet Explorer Script Error Message When You Open My
Network Places" (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=300423)

If you haven't got TweakUI the Win Me compatible version (1.33) can be
downloaded from Microsoft
(http://www.microsoft.com/ntworkstation/downloads/powertoys/networking/nttweakui.asp)
and installed as follows:

Download to a folder with a short name (e.g. C:\Tweak), run to extract
components, right click on tweakui.inf and then install, close the help
window that comes up to allow install to finish.  C:\Tweak can now be
deleted and TweakUI accessed via the Control Panel.

Just a few words of caution if you are new to using TweakUI on Win Me.
a) Do not change the first icon (My Documents) on the Desktop tab.
Doing this causes a number of script errors in Special Folders when using
either WebView or Active desktop.
b) Do not uncheck "Search Results" on the Desktop tab.
Doing this disables the Search in Explorer.
c) Do not hide the TweakUI icon on the Control Panel tab.
d) Do not uncheck "Show Control Panel on Start Menu" on the IE tab.
Doing this will prevent you from accessing the Control Panel including
TweakUI.
e) Do not uncheck "Shell Enhancements" on the IE tab.
This causes quite a few unexpected "problems".

Mike, thanks for the solution! I have TweakUI and I never messed with it. I
did chose my document folder instead of my computer and a boot up and this
problem seems to be out of the way. Thanks for the guidance!

Thanks for the feedback Chris and I'm pleased to read you seem to have
fixed the problem with Nethood.  Have you made any progress with the
original script error when printing from Internet Explorer or did that
also fix itself once you had changed the icon order on the desktop?  I
didn't think the two problems were related but one learns all the time!

Cheers,

Dear Mike, yes it did! You guys are awesome! I wish you could appear in win
98 group also. I am in the midst of installing that on a PenII and got lot of
problems with that and go back and forth to that discussion group also :-).
Thanks again!

You probably haven't seen Noel there because your posts are in the
Win95 group, not the Win98 group.

Thanks Chris.  That's quite interesting.  I don't recall having seen Win
Me's icon placement causing the script error in Internet Explorer although
I'm familiar with it causing the error you saw in Nethood and several
other of the special folders.

Not sure though that you'll be seeing me in the Win 98 groups, I thought
there were plenty there already providing help.

Mike, they are. I am not good at explaining things right and have probably
created a confusion. I might just go with Win XP and put it to rest. thanks
again!
