good day all,

i'm trying to clean / format my hard drive but when I type format c:, I am
getting an error message that its an invalid command.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

 Or know what causes this?

Thanks,

BRook

How are you booting your PC?  If using a Win Me boot floppy you need
choose either option 2 or 3 from the menu.  Don't select option 4, Minimal
boot, as the FORMAT command won't be available.

No wonder! - you cannot format a drive from which you have booted the
system! - you have to boot from a floppy or CD to do so.

In addition to Noel's comments may I mention that this is a newsgroup
supporting those using the Windows Millennium (Win Me) operating system,
not Windows 2000.

May I suggest that if you have questions relating to your use of Win2K you
post to a more appropriate newsgroup.  There are many newsgroups in the
microsoft.public.win2000.* hierarchy on the Microsoft news server
msnews.microsoft.com whilst for those who feel they have to use a web
interface rather than a proper news client the microsoft.public.win2000.*
hierarchy is available via your browser at:

Not a problem, it's just that you are more likely to get any help you need
from a Win2K newsgroup than one for those using WinMe since there are
considerable differences between the two operating systems.  Having said
that many of those helping here. including myself, are also using XP,
Vista, Win2K and Win2K3 so you could strike lucky even when posting to the
wrong newsgroup.
