I'm running Windows ME. Have a large .tif file I'd like to delete, but when
I put the cursor on it in Windows Explorer, I get the error message "Explorer
has caused an error in kernel32.dll and will now close". No diagnostic
information is offered.
I've also tried going through "search", then highlight and delete, but with
same result.
How can I delete this file? It is not otherwise corrupted, for example, I
can open it and edit it with Adobe Illustrator.
Try deleting the file from a DOS window.
Start | Programs | Accessories | MS-DOS Prompt
This should then display C:\WINDOWS>, in other words you are in the
Windows Directory. Using the CD command move to the folder containing the
unwanted TIF, which, if in the My Documents\My Pictures folder would be
CD "C:\My Documents\My Pictures"
Use Quote marks as the path includes blanks and is in what is called Long
File Name format.
Once you are in the correct directory/folder use the DEL command to delete
the unwanted file, again using quote marks is the name is not in 8.3
format.

Thanks for the feedback and I'm pleased to read you've managed to delete
the file.
