Thread rating: |
webster72n - 20 Jan 2007 03:14 GMT Just a reminder that the latest version of the free Belarc Advisor is 7.2h, for those who would like to update. Deletion of the former version will be automatic during installation.
Harry.
Heirloom - 20 Jan 2007 16:47 GMT Thanks for the reminder, Harry. I was still on 7.2a and definitions were out of date. Don't use this tool very often, but, it sure is handy when you need it. Update is painless. Heirloom, old and must get ready for errands

I found mine hidden in that folder for unused icons. But I ran it and you know what?? It doesn't look any different than our old ones.

Joan Archer - 20 Jan 2007 22:04 GMT It just makes it so that it can tell whether you have the latest updates from Microsoft. Joan

Something knocked my sound off here and I thought I installed the latest drivers....didn't. So will get Willy to walk me thru it. I am so totally phobic on those.

Joan Archer - 21 Jan 2007 11:19 GMT So do I Mike, well I have it installed and use it occasionally <g> don't know anything about Secunia Inspector though <g> Joan

Secunia Inspector (http://secunia.com/software_inspector/) will also tell you about outdated/vulnerable copies of other software including, for example, Sun Java, Acrobat, Flash, WinAmp, WinZip, Skype & QuickTime, however it only runs on NT based systems such as W2K and XP.

Joan Archer - 21 Jan 2007 17:28 GMT Thanks Mike I will go and take a look when I have a bit more time, it wouldn't be able to tell me about Sun Java as I don't have it on this machine of mine I just have Microsoft VM.<g> Joan

That is probably the truth, Mike, as I tried to run it and got an error to the effect that "the Java applet was not able to be loaded" and I don't use Sun either.

George Gee - 21 Jan 2007 18:19 GMT Hi Joan

I would imagine you have no room for clutter, with all those copies of Sun Java fighting for disc space! :-)

Prices are very reasonable!
> George Gee Joan Archer - 21 Jan 2007 21:46 GMT <lol> Don't think I'll bother George <g> at the moment I obviously don't need the Sun version for doing anything with this machine or I would have been nagged to download so I think I'll pass <g> Joan

Unless someone with *more* knowledge has a better idea. You probably know whom I am thinking of. I'm always open & greatful for suggestions.

Heather - 20 Jan 2007 21:12 GMT Doesn't look much different, Harry. But it is a handy little thing when you need it. I liked how smoothly it removed the old one and then replaced it. Too bad the spyware progs aren't that good.
(not sure who you are thinking of, to be honest, lol)

Myself, I use it more often, just to verify that everything is still 'in order' and 'in place', as desired. My icon is stored in Quick launch. <H>

I did, Mike and it points to a totally different platform, pertaining to users and OS's. Seems that we are both well served with our individual choices. <H>.
