i currently use musicmatch to burn my cd's.  never had a problem before until
i ininstalled jave, which i did reinstall it, and i uninstalled outlook
express which i know is for mail.  i currently installed mozilla firefox
because my explorer freezes up on me all the time.  now for some reason when
i go to burn a cd, it goes thru all the motion and when i play the disc there
is nothing on it.  does anyone know what i can do to fix this?  or what i
might have done to cause this??
Heather - 19 May 2008 18:31 GMT
I use MusicMatch Plus, but only to play mp3's.  I have never burned a CD
with it.  I prefer to use either Nero or Roxio.  But MusicMatch has been
sold to Yahoo and perhaps there is some conflict there.  Every time I
start MM up, I get an annoying Yahoo message that says *switch now* over
to Yahoo.  But that is obviously only for downloading pay mp3's and or
listening to radio, etc.

So.....do you not have Windows Media Player on your computer??  You can
burn CD's with that as well.

I happen to use Firefox as well but you CANNOT remove Outlook Express
because it is part and parcel of Internet Explorer, which is why it is
not working properly.  I think you have made a rather bizarre mess out
of your computer!!

Oh well, Mike M will be along if he still has any hair or patience left,
grin.  He may be able to tell you how to fix it.  I have some things up
my sleeve, but until you get your MS IE and OE mess sorted out, not
about to suggest anything.

Just out of curiosity, why did you remove Java and OE??

How did you uninstall Outlook Express?  This is an integral part of Win Me
and cannot be uninstalled.  I cannot help but given your multitude of
problems wonder what damage you might have done to your system.  Please
post full details of what programs you have installed, uninstalled and
updated, since your system last preformed correctly.

Outlook??  or Outlook Express.  They are two different things.  So which
is it??

And there is NO Outlook/Outlook Express in Control Panel.  Come back
when you get your story straight.  This is way too confusing!!

there was one that was in the add/remove programs part of the control panel
heather.  i know that outlook express is for mail.  so if that was the one
that would have been there, then thats the one that i would have uninstalled.

OK, Mike sorted that one out from this end.  The problem is that other
than one or two people, we all are using XP.  Mike has both.  And
Outlook is also a *mail program* which is why you were confusing me.  I
have it on this computer but don't use it.

Is it possible that either your CD drive or Musicmatch program have gone
belly up?  Mere coincidence, but a distinct possibility.

Listen to what Mike has to say and do try and describe what you are
seeing by way  of error messages, etc.

You need to provide far more information about what you are trying to do,
what you have done and what you are seeing including the full text of all
error messages.

Incidentally my apologies for my comment about Outlook Express.  I forgot
that in Win Me that uninstalling Outlook Express is an option (it is not
in XP) and indeed can be uninstalled by unchecking the Outlook Express
checkbox found at Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | Windows Setup.

thank you mike.  it seems that u do indeed know far more than "others"  i am
not getting any type of error messages, this is the problem.  it seems that
once i uninstalled the jave, and the outlook express my pc has been acting
funny.  such as with the music burner situation.  so i thought well maybe its
because i uninstalled the java, so i went to java.com and reinstalled java,
and still the burner will go thru all the motions and will say disc burn
successfull after the burn, then when i try to play it it is blank.  i even
uninstalled and reinstalled musicmatch thinking that it might have been them,
but its still the same.  i did install mozilla firefox because on some
websites my internet explorer freezes up, but it seems like all of a sudden
things are not working properly after i did the uninstall.  and outlook
express i would think should b irrelevant to all of this because it is used
for mail.  does this help some or is it getting more confusing for u..im
sorry for all the confusion.  but i have no error messages thats why i havent
told u of any

You say you get no error messages so what EXACTLY happens when you attempt
to create a checkpoint?  Please describe exactly what happens at each step
including how you determine that you are unable to create a checkpoint.

For the moment forget about Java, this has NOTHING whatsoever to do with
system restore.

Installing Mozilla should not have caused the problems you mention.

Mike I know that things are very confusing at the moment with serena but I
think your last post went to the wrong thread <g>

Joan,

Confusing yes but I was responding to serena's comment "i am not getting
any type of error messages" and expanding that to include none when using
system restore.  We'll just have to wait and see if she returns. I hope
she does, and then we will hopefully get system restore working and then
move on from there.  I'd prefer to have the SR lifeline working before
digging further.

Cheers (K getting any sleep?)

OK I only mentioned it because her post underneath is dealing with System
Restore and this one was about her music burner problems so I thought
perhaps you'd sent it to the wrong thread <g>

As for Kelly I don't think she got much last night as he was apparently
awake for most of it <g> they came over today for a while so I got the
chance to actually hold him and got copies of all the photos she had on her
camera put on here <g>
