Is there anything that I can do to enhance the way
Microsoft ME manages my computer's RAM? I just upgraded
the RAM to 768 MB and my available system resources remain
unchanged from when I had only 128 MB of RAM. Apparently
ME, running the same software as before, now uses 460 MB
of RAM as opposed to 76 MB of RAM earlier with no software
changes. What is going on? I thought adding 600 MB of
RAM to the system would help it, but apparently it only
turned ME into a bigger memorey pig. Now, more frequently
than ever, I get the messages, "Not enought system
resources to operate the program, try shutting down
software and retrying the operation." This is making me
crazy when it recognizes the 768 MB of RAM, and now
allocates it with the same percentages as it did with only
128 MB of RAM. Makes me want to buy an Apple!

Many people equate RAM with system resources and that is simply not the way it
is. Read the following pages for explanations of System resources.
Ron Martell's (MS-MVP) site:
http://onlinehelp.bc.ca/tips.htm#resources
or Jim Eshelman's (MS-MVP) FAQ on the subject at:

Also, since you now have more than 512MB of RAM;
Open the system.ini file located in the Windows folder.
Scroll down to the [vcache] section and insert the following line:
MaxFileCache=512000
Note: This means that all memory is still available to applications. It is
simply limiting the amount used as virtual cache memory.
