I am having the same problem as 'Daniel'. I used a website that came with my
iPod Nano and it is a very long download. Maybe you need to download the
program, too.?

It looks like Microsoft's media player is not playing nice with Apple's ipod.
I have the same problem and to tell you the truth I hate the %@#$ games.
These companies don't really care about functionality and compatibility of
their products its just freaking market shares

I think it's really more that MS feels no obligation of supporting a device
that can't natively play WMA/WMV files. Since the usual behavior of WMP is
to copy WMV/WMA files to compatible players, what do you expect it do with
an iPod? Autoconvert Windows Media files to Apple's formats? To MP3?
Windows Media Player doesn't really support synching with non-Windows Media
devices, and the iPod, despite it's huge market share, isn't a WM-device.
Third-party utilities have been written to address the incompatibility
issue- this one is $20, but has a 30-day free trial:

I guess my question is if you really want to use an iPod, vs. a
WMP-compatible player, why not just use iTunes instead of WMP?
