OK, I have a DLink DSM-320. So far it's "OK". Now what I want to do is place
a large HDD on my home network wher my PCs can deposit ALL of their media
files (not a big deal). However, I also want the DSM-320 to be able to read
the files off this drive as well. Dlink sells home network drives (20gb &
40gb versions) that are very expensive for the amount of storage, but
supposedly the DSM-320 can use them.
So, then I looked at the4 Dlink DNS-120 which is a uPnP Ethernet to USB HDD
interface. But Dlink 3rd level support statres the the DNS-120 will not work
with the DSM-320. just because a device is uPnP, does not mean the DSM-320
can see it.
This leads me to believe that the functions that WMC provide is more than
uPnP. If so, are there any other hardware mfgs that have Ethernet HDD devices
that support these functions?

The DSM-320 and DMRs use UPnP/AV -- probably the easiest solution is just to
put together a computer with lots of disk storage...

Hello. I Don't know if this is any help but the D-Link DSM-624H 40G
Wireless Central Home Drive has a USB port that enables you to attac
additional external hard disk storage. Maybe worth looking at th
Maxtor One Touch Range... Still works out cheaper than a legal Medi
Server.

I don't know if I'm an oddity or what, but I've had good luck with XIMETA's
Netdisk attached to my router. there was a moment when it didn't work - the
disk was showing up as a mapped network drive. When I deleted the mapped
drive, things worked just fine with Windows Media. The drive is showing up
as a lettered drive on My Computer even without the mapping.
