I'm Sorry. We're goign to need more information if anyone on the newsgroup
is going to be able to help.
What IRiver device do you have?
What version of the firmware are you running?
Does the device show up in the windows shell?
Does the device work with IRiver's sync software?
What are you doing to get C00D1179? (if the device simply isn't recognized,
where does the error come from?)

Its the new iriver 5 gigabite H10 that came out on january 30th 2005, in the
settings option on the player it says firmware v.1.00 mtp so i believe thats
the version its currently running. Its not showing up in my computer as a
drive E: removable disk like it should. I'm not sure what the iriver's sync
software is, but the software that came with it only contained windows media
player 10.0. And i'm getting the code because when i plug the usb in windows
asks me if i want to sync it with windows media player and when i say yes it
gives me an error message that displays, "can't find portable media device"
click here for more info, and gives me that code. It's wierd how it wont
connect because it asks me if it wants me to sync it but then it says device
not found. I aslo upgraded all my xp home edition upgrades and my security
upgrades. The only thing i can think is that it is the hardware
installation, i'm gonna try and check that tonight or tomorrow. Hope that
helps. Sry, about the short explanation earlier didnt have time to riht much
and thx for any help you can provide.

I'll forward that infomation down the hall a few doors and see if anyone on
the Portable Devices side of the team has some suggestions. I'll let you
know if I hear anything back.

Hello John,
When the device is connected as an MTP device it will not show up anymore as
a drive. However you should notice it using the Shell Extension under
"Portable Media Devices" either in "My Computer" or via the "Control Panel"
and if you dont see this option I'm wondering if the umwdf service has
started or not. Please go to start -> run -> input "cmd" and hit enter. Now
within your cmd window input "sc start umwdf" it will tell you if its
running or not. Let me know if this works for you and I will investigate a
little more on this issue as I have not seen this myself.
Note:
Even if the umwdf service is stopped, you will still get the autoplay
pop-up.

Hi! All,
I have encountered the same problem that John has run into. The "umwdf" is
running in my XP pro SP2 PC. An entry is shown under Window Portable Devices
as IRIVER H10 in the Device Manager window pane. The property of the device
indicated the device is enabled and working coorectly with wpdusb.sys
installed as its device driver.
Pressed F5 as instructed by the message displayed in the Window Media Player
10 to flesh the player; however, it did not detect the IRIVER H10 player.
How is the investigation going? Can you help on this?
Thanks,
CP

I have exactly the same problem but using a Zen Micro Mini mp3 player.
I have tried your solution and the MSDOS prompt says that umwdf is
already running.
Also the device does not show up in My Computer or the Portable Media
Devices folder in the control panel.
The only place it shows up is in the device manager.
I sure hope you can help us out. Thank You.

I am interested, too. Seems many of the H10 are having similar
problems. Makes me wonder if Iriver and WM10 were thoroughly compared
before they came outl

This is interesting, I verified this working on my XPSP2/WMP10 machine. My
iRiver H10 (w/ MTPv1.00). I also installed iRiver MusicManager to see if
that was causing issues. And it didnt seem to hinder my WMP10 functionality.
I'm trying to locate a retail CD and install everything off of it. (I want
to see if something is causing this not to work) I'm assuming all of you are
installing software etc off of the iRiver CD?
Also, when you say your device is showing up under device manager. What
part? If its MTP you should see your device under.
"Windows Portable Devices"
" ->MTP Device"
Let me know if you see this as well. Or if its showing up somplace else.
Thanks all.
