WMC doesn't start

Hi.

After installing WMC, and when trying to run it from the start menu or
control panel, I get an error message "Folder sharing cannot be started. The
dependency service or group failed to start".

Looking at the event log, it appears that the UPnP Device Host starts but
then exits. If I try to start this manually, I get a message to say that the
service started but then stopped.

I've tried removing and reinstalling UPnP related services from 'Add /
Remove Windows Components' and also removed / reinstalled .Net and WMC ...
but this makes no difference.

I'm on XP SP2.

Any advice or ideas on the cause of this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi Dave,
I figured out the problem. I am able to successfully start WMC. Here is the
procedure.
1. go to controlpanel-> performance&Maintenance -> AdministrationTools ->
Services.
2. Look for the WMC service. Double click on it. A property sheet window
will be displayed. click on the Dependencies tab. There are 3 components.
3. open each of those service properties and start them individually.
4. After making sure all those services are up  and running, start WMC.

Hope this helps
Ravi

Thanks Ravi.

Unfortunately one of the dependencies is Univeral Plug and Play Device Host,
and this service will start but immediately stops, prevented WMC from
starting.

I've tried this on two other machines and it ran okay ... just can't get it
to work on my home machine!
