Recently resurrected a Pentium 233 MMX running Win 98SE with 256mb ram.
It is networked over a wireless WAN with a P4 2.0gHz for printing, DSL
internet & music filesharing. Mostly MP3s.
Tried installing WMP 9, but playback was unstable with drop-outs.
Installed 7.1 thinking it might run with more stability.
Music files playback acceptably.
Problem is the media library. Is there a way to have 7.1 populate the
library from a networked drive? Seems to allow search of local drives only.
Thanks, I'll check them out. Thoughts on whether new devices are replacing
them, that they are being discontinued?

What I think is the problem is simply that a Pentium 233 MMX w/ 256mb of ram
is not enought to run WMP and use its built in EQ during playback. Turning
off the EQ makes the music play nice and smooth.
