I want to use lossless WMA with MWC also. I looked into the Ruko M1000 as it
"Supports WMA" which I assume means all bit rates. I even went looking over
all their documents for any small print about limits but found none. So today
I bought one and a fancy DAC ($125 second hand probably was about a grand
new).
Well now I'm pissed. After working through issues with WMC not sharing
folders well if your computer is part of a domain, I can play compressed
files just fine (464kb/s playing right now) but the smae tracked ripped
lossless does not work.
Next step: try SlimServer.

I don't know how "technically inclined" you are, but if you want to do
a bit of debugging of what WMC is exposing for the lossless tracks to
your media playback device, you could download the "Intel® Tools for
UPnP Technologies" from
http://www.intel.com/technology/UPnP/download.htm#tools
Included in these is an "AV Media Controller" which can browse through
the catalog exposed by the media server software (ie WMC in this
case), and you can look at the actual attribute information that is
exposed for each track. It might - or might not - be instructive to
look at what WMC is showing for both the lossless and "normal" WMA
files, and whether or not the lossless one looks like it might be
adding/missing something that your player device doens't like.
You can also do the same with any other media server app you might
install (eg there is a "reference" on in that same kit from Intel that
you can test with too, as a "cross check"), and see if for those there
is anything sigificantly different with how the lossless WMAs are
exposed to the player.
If you can find a difference, between how the lossless WMA file looks
on a server that works end-to-end to your player vs how the same file
is exposed by WMC, then I'm sure that is the sort of thing that the
Microsoft guys reading this newsgroup would be able to take to try to
repro in their lab then fix in the next release (with any luck).

I think this is the main problem - there are plenty of media devices out
there that say "Supports WMA" but when you actually look into it a bit more
deeply, they don't support WMA lossless. Normally when you main a company to
ask if their media player supports lossless, you can pretty much guarantee
that if you don't receive a reply that it doesn't.

WMC does support lossless WMA, but some devices cannot play lossless WMA.
You'll have to get in touch with the device vendor to find out whether they
support lossless or not.

WMC will also automatically decode WMA (of any kind, not just loseless) if
there is no content protection. I think the issue is that DMR supports WMA
so it never requests the PCM version of the file.

FYI, as of our 2.1 software (currently in public beta), the SoundBridge now
supports WMA lossless in just this way. If we encounter a format through WMC
that we don't natively support (WMA Lossless for example), we will stream the
PCM version instead. At this point, I think we're the only device to support
WMA lossless, natively or otherwise.

Thank you Patrick
Just what I wanted to know.
I'm glad you guys a Roku know what WMA lossless is, I had some other
reactions....
I only do WMA lossless because I keep my original CD quality with it, and
still have, a bit of compression. Any lossy compression is taboo for me, I'm
a music lover...
And I like your devices...
