Hi,

When I try to start Windows Media Connect, I get this error message
(translated from Norwegian, so it might not be the exact same message on
English XP):

"Wizard for Windows Media Connect
The network service is not answering
[OK]"

What is wrong?

(One time when I tried starting, it was just spinning forever at "Windows
Media Connect is starting....")

I have Win XP Home (Norwegian), and just installed Windows Media Connect. I
have all possible updates installed (all available from Windows Update).

Thank you!

Hi Torbjørn,

You probably have to start all uPnP Services in Windows XP.
I had the same problem and had all uPnP services disabled. Put them on
manual or automatic and they will start and also will Media Connect,
Media COnnect needs these service running to recognise media devices in your
network.

Thanks Peter,

I set the following services to start automatic:
-SSDP Discovery Service
-Universal Plug and Play Device Host
-Windows Media Connect (WMC)

Even though all the services are started, I get the same error message.

Another rather strange thing is that if I try to restart the WMC-service, I
get a timeout, and then it it stopped. If I try to start it manually again,
it seems to be up and running. -But still I get the error message when trying
to start the application/GUI.

What else could be wrong? Are there more services to enable?

BTW - I am running on 1.3GHz Duron with 512MB SD PC100 RAM, could my
computer be too slow? -I read something about problems with WMC and slow
computers...

I forgot, I also set the following service to automatic (translated from
Norwegian):
"Help software/application for Windows Media Connect (WMC)"

-But still I get the same error message...

Anybody?

What messages do you get in the event log?

Hmmm... I think the one to concentrate is the first one.  Did you make any
changes to the account that is used for the WMC services?

The WmcCds service should run under the NTSERVICE\NetworkService account.
The WmcCdsLs service should run under the Local System account.
