I put WMC on my PC when I got my xbox 360.  All works like a charm but...when
i boot up my PC each morning windows media connect (wmccds.exe I think is the
process) insists on rescanning my entire music collection (over 30GB) which
takes ages, uses up resources and thrashes the crap out of my hard drive.
Why does it have to do this everytime I boot?  Can't it just do it once and
be done with it?  I have had to uninstall it again now because I can't stand
it thrashing away all morning.  Should it do this and if so can't it be
turned off or something?

Yes, WMC will rescan all of your media every time the computer boots.  No,
this can't be disabled, Yes, it is going to be fixed in the next version. We
simply didn't have time to implement a persistent metadata cache and ship in
time for the XBox 360. WMC can scan on the order of 1500+ files per minute.
The current workaround is to be a bit more selective about what your share.
If you limit you sharing to say your 200 favorite albums then WMC should
scan them in less than 5 minutes.

Sorry,

Can you advise if a fix has been implimented yet or a time for its release
for wmccds.exe. "wmccds.exe" is causing my pc to crash during long its
start-up if I try to open a web page or try to access my routers web based
settings. But the error message on restart seems to point to a display driver
problem. I have tried upgrading my display driver but the problem still
exists. The Extender resource monitor constantly advises cpu 99% prior to
crashing as does task manager.

If you upgrade to WMP 11 Beta 2, it does not do a full file scan on boot, so
this problem should go away (or perhaps point to some other app that's
causing the display driver to crash).  You will need to make sure all your
music files are in WMP 11's list of "Monitored Folders" (hit F3 when in the
Library view), and will likely need to re-authorize your device(s) (in the
Libary->Media Sharing... dialog inside WMP 11).
