I have windows media connect installed and folder shareing works but
everytime I restart the pc, wmc has an error that folder sharing is stopped,
it then works for about 5 minutes indexing my media files and then comes up
normal. I previously had it working for the last 3 weeks. but I went back to
a "ghost" image of my harddrive from 4 weeks ago.

That just sounds like a noisy announcement to me.  The system services start
up slowly after a reboot

Thank you for the response, but I think the system serivces are running. As
far as I can tell the service starts but it isnt running until it goes
through all of my media files and indexes them again. it is as if everytime I
restart the pc, I am running WMC for the first time. the services are
running, but folder sharing cannot start until WMC has finished indexing all
my music and photos.

after experimenting further, it seems that the behavior I am experiencing is
normal, apparently everytime folder sharing is started, it first scans all
the folders. since I have 30+ gb of music and photos, this takes a while.
shame they could not have a database remember this information like windows
media player does.
