Hi,
I just go a new LRM-519, and have a weird issue:
Here is the whole story:
- I installed the LRM-519 on my home network through a router
- I have a PC at home on the same network, in a workgroup
configuration. I installed WMC and I can access images and music files
from the LRM-519 - works great
- I have a laptop here at work (company-issued), configured for the
corporate network. I installed WMC on it and its status says it is
running and sharing the folders properly.
- When I log on (at home) on the laptop, using my Corporate network
credentials, I do not see the folders or files through the LRM-519
- When I log on (still at home) on the laptop using the local
administrator account (i.e. not trying to join a domain then), I can
see the folders and files through the LRM-519, but I cannot see the
actual images (I get blue boxes instead of the actual images) or play
music files (the LRM-519 says there is a server problem with music
files).
I do not thjink this is a firewall issue:all the WMC ports have been
added as exception and authorized, and the LRM-519 can clearly see the
folder and file names. Also, as this is the company-issued laptop, I
can't disable the firewall (it is handled by the group policy).
My feeling is that it is a permission problem (like on the corporate
network: I can see other people's folders but can't open them
without the proper permission). However, I have already checked that
the NETWORK SERVICE has read access to the WMC-shared folders and the
files it contains.
So I am wondering what to try next. Should I 'share' the folders
manually (using Windows Explorer)? I can see that NETWORK SERVICE
already has read access to the folders so I guess this is not the
problem.
Or should I add a network protocol to my network adapter?
Thanks for any suggestion you may have. With my home PC where
everything works just fine, I find it a fantastic product!!! So I just
hope I can make it work as well on my corproate laptop where I saved
most of my images and music files.
Thanks,
Domi

You're running into two issues:
1) If you share media from a domain account in WMC, WMC will only expose the
server for that account when the computer is actively connected to a domain
controller (via a Virtual Private Network or directly at your workplace).
The workaround is to do your sharing from a local account. I've also heard
reports that uninstalling and then reinstalling WMC as a local administrator
account (instead of a domain account that's also a local administrator)
fixed problems like this.
2) Many corporate domains are set to turn on "IP Security", aka IPSec such
that any computer that has been joined to their domain will not talk to any
other device that doesn't also support IPSec. This ensures that
communication between domain-joined machines can't be tampered with. It
also has the side effect of blocking communication with any computer or
device that doesn't support IPSec. I know of no UPnP digital media
renderers that support IPSec (including XBox 360, the Rokus, the D-Links and
the LRG-519 you list below). To get around this, you may be able to run
'net stop policyagent', which should disable the IPSec policy. Of course,
you'll then no longer be able to talk to any computers or other devices that
require IPSec. A more permanent solution is to talk with your network
administrator about marking your laptop as a "boundary" machine, which would
allow it to talk with both IPSec and non-IPSec devices and computers.
