For some unknown reason, video playback has vanished on
on my Windows Media Player v.9. Doent matter whether I
load an AVI, WMV or MP3 but all I see is a very faint
purple-ish looking box (of the correct video size). The
audio content of the file plays OK.

I have run my DXDIAG and that reports all is OK. I can
also load the files in RealPlayer without problems.

Any obvious ideas?

Is your monitor set as the Primary or default display?

The Display Properties in the Control Panel will help you set that.
