WMP is crashing every time I try to play streaming video or audio.  I have used the same links in the past that are now crashing WMP.  For example, I'm trying to open http://www.byutv.org/streaming/byutv250.asx.  After opening that link, WMP thinks for 1 second, then the box appears stating "MS WMP has encountered a problem and needs to close..."  The error report notes the AppName: wmplayer.exe  AppVer: 9.0.0.2980 ModName: unknown. The Error Report Contents start with Exception Information; Code: 0xc0000409.  I'm running Windows 2000 and all the service packs are installed. According to Windows Update I've got all of the WMP files I could ever need.  I tried reinstalling WMP twice, uninstalled RealPlayer, recovered WMP files from SpyBot, etc.  I can't think of what programs I've installed since I was able to last play streaming audio/video through WMP.  Any help would be appreciated.  TIA

I am getting the same error message.  Microsoft says this is a device driver issue, but cannot identify it specifically.  I cannot figure out anything I have installed since it was working before.  In my case, the message comes up a couple of minutes after opening WMA, even if I don't try to use it.  This is very frustrating;  any ideas?

I have exactly the same error message upon trying to play streaming video.
Same error code 0xc0000409.  I'm running WinXPPro.  I've also uninstalled and
reinstalled several times.  My IT folks think the trouble may be tied to
Internet Explorer and a file comctl32.dll.  I have several versions on my
system and we're pursuing this angle.  If I get this fixed, I'll post.
Meanwhile, like you, it's driving me nuts.
