I received the above stated error when I try to play anything from the web. I can play cd's and anything that I have saved on my hard drive. I never experienced this problem in the past. It has only occured since I upgraded to Windows Media Player 9 Series a few months ago. My current OS is Windows XP. I can also play all other webfiles/sites with other media players (ie. real audio, quicktime, etc) my only problem is WP. I tried the trouble shooting hints that I am directed to when the player fails to work.  This usually occurs when I select an audio file from the internet, WP opens up within the browser and then it opens up a new page with the error message C00D1197 and its troubleshoot. What do I need to do to correct this and get my player to work? It's normally not a problem  because I can use one of the other players, but when a file can only be played in WP I experience problems.  I do not have a firewall.  The most current site I am having problems with is this: http://www.sonymusicstore.com/store/catalog/MerchandiseDetails.jsp?merchId=67942
&sms=1022693-87125-msy&UID=3%2faZj3wfKc93wuS8yt1TophCURHJSTcn&TYPE=CCID

I tried ALL the audio files there... here is one link specifically: http://app2.sonymusic.com/sme/master/otr/winmediafile/0,0,1367_0_27629898,00.asx

Any suggestions?

That works fine on my machine.  What process's do you have running in the
background?  It's got to be a problem with one of two things.  One being a
process being WMP from getting to the content correctly, or two bring a
network configuration issue in WMP.

Process are everything running in the background on your PC.  Bring up the
Task Manager to see what they are.

Oh. I only have open the internet browser (Internet Explorer) and Windows Player. I rarely have anything else open. Should I just re-download the program and try to set it up again?

Your not looking in the Task Manager, press CTRL+ALT+DEL and click on the
Process' tab
