I am using XP Home. When I log on as any of 3 users
windows media player opens during boot, stays open and my
sound disapears. If I restart the computer, my sound is
back until I log in and media player opens again. This is
a new problem and I have not changed any settings or
added any software for over two weeks.

Does
http://www.nwlink.com/~zachd/pss/pss.html#startup
help you clean this up?

No!. Sorry it took so long to get back. Thanks for your
reply. The only file that was in question from that sites
programs was c\windows\csrss.exe. I did not delete or fix
this file. I tried pcdoctor and one other fix site. No
solving this problem yet. A deep file search does not
produce any files related to the ones described on the
website. I have ad-aware and Norton virus scanned. I am
clean by these software programs. Thoughts? Thanks again.

The player should likely be starting up based upon
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
or so.  Unfortunately, WMP doesn't have any ability to set itself to start
on startup, so ... I'd have little idea how it got put in that position
other than that the only real known cause of this is 3rd party nastyware.

Thanks for trying. I agree that a third party "new" bug
has gotten my WMP9. I have been using all known programs
to find or identify this and clean it up, but all
programs give me an all clean message. I guess I am stuck
for now. Who needs sound anyway.

I forgot. The is no startup reference in the HKEY you
described. No loader, no nothing except what should be in
startup. Some day I will get an answer and post it.
