CD-Ripping worked fine for all the time...but it is not running since a couple of weeks...and I have not installed any additional software on that PC...but I do auto.-update windows...
I am using ther latest WM 3.00.003128 version (ger).
It can't seem to burn a music cd to media player.
Music CD was inserted in drive...
It says "13 tracks checked to copy to "D:\My Music\Convert"
- so at this point it was already reading the CD-Info etc.
However, when I now press "Copy from CD"...
it comes up with the message "Trying to refresh the CD play list", changes to "0 tracks checked to copy to ... and locks out at this stage.
A folder is created in D:\My Music\Convert, picking up the name of the album, however the folder is empty...
The same happens when I just press the "Play" button.
Funny to notice, that I have tried several other media players and different CDs...but always the same result. WM9 pops-up this message...while other players do play or rip the CD just fine...
Please help!!!
Weird- that's error "Error: Trying to refresh CD playlist", as you're
seeing...
Is your Media Library working properly?
Can you play back the CDs in WMP?

Yes, my media library is working fine, I can play local or remote files in the WMP...and even the other CD/DVD drives are working fine!
In total I have 3 CD/DVD drives installed. All drives had been working fine for all the time...just recently this single CD-RW drive reports the error when playing or ripping a CD from that drive. The other drives are still working fine (even with WMP). And that drive in question is also working fine with other software (e.g. Winamp, iTunes, RealOne, Nero...etc).
The installed drives are:
a) external USB-2.0 CD-RW (not working with WMP)
b) internal DVD-ROM (working)
c) internal DVD-RW (working)
One other funny thing also...every so often (unluckily not every time) I get a Windows XP error right after the WMP error...that error says:
...you should not connect a fast USB-2.0 device to a slow 1.0 host adapter...funny enough, that my system has only one USB host adapter, which is a 2.0 adapter!
However, this error message doesn't seem to effect other applications, since I can still play CDs from other programs on that drive...rebooting my system will resolve that Windows error and all works fine again until I try to play or rip a CD again from that drive with the WMP.
I didn't installed new hard- or software before the error happened the first time.
The only stuff which was updated/installed was:
- automatic Windows OS updates
- Norton Anti-Virus updates
- ZoneAlarm updates

I wouldn't know enough about the source of this error. WMP uses the system
IMAPI services, and I don't think the other applications here use those,
which may be the point of differentiation that's causing the problem only in
WMP. Sounds like (as you could guess) there's some sort of problem getting
data from the device - hence leading to that weird message from XP.
This'd be a question for XP/IMAPI support if you wanted to pursue it-

Relieved to find that others dealing with this problem. Have any resolutions
presented themselves since 2004 postings.
Media Player 10 constantly freezing (sometimes the entire system) when I try
to rip CDs?
History: would sometimes (infrequently) encounter problems with ripping CDs
in Media Player 9 environment but had put it down to problem with CD (i.e.
protected, etc.). Player recently updated to version 10 when added Creative
Zen Touch mp3 player. Have been trying to rip CD collection in Media Player
environmet, so can download to Creative player but can't seem to rip 2-3 CDs
in row without Media Player freezing. Automatic error reports are generated
and sent off but have heard nothing in reply. Have checked all help
sections/sites in various programs and followed instructions but nothing
presents itself as problematic. Don't know what to do, where to go, and
frustrating mounting?! Any advice etc....
System Config:Windows XP Home (automatic updates); Windows Media Player
10.00.00.3646; single DVD/CD-RW drive (Mitsumi CR48XGTE); AVG Virus, Spybot
and Adware automatic updates, searches, etc. Any other info required?
