Windows media center can see and play the dvd, but WMP 11 cannot. I updated my video driver, ran the decoder check-up utility and it showed no preferred codec, but several were 'acceptable' but no decoder was recommended as 'preferred'. Checked for updates, none found. Downloaded lots of codecs, but have not hit the right one for standard dvd viewing...??? Cannot pull the codec off of the cd that came w/the pc because it simply downloads the OEM version of Roxio/Sonic onto my Dell. I have upgraded to Creator 9 and it seems to work. The only solution i have found is to download "essential codec pack" and "AVSDVD player" both from a site called Software Informer. Those aren't free, so if your system didn't have one, you would have needed to go purchase one.
