When I play an mp3 or anything else through windows media
player 7 the bar that shows the progress of how much the
file has played moves but there is no sound or picture.
However, winamp and all my other media players work
properly.  Anyone have any ideas? I have reinstalled
windows media player.

If you right-click on the WMP logo (top-left of the player) you should be
able to access the drop down 'Play' menu. Go to the sub-menu labelled
'Volume' and ensure that there is not a tick against 'Mute'. If there is
deselect this and the files should play correctly.
