Media Player Toolbar Not Working

Greetings All!

I've started having a weird problem with wmp 10. I usually minimize it to
that nice little toolbar when I'm listening to a playlist. Yesterday it
stopped working...sort of. It will still minimize to the taskbar/toolbar
but none of the buttons work (other than Restore) and it no longer shows
the song titles when they change (via the popup window) nor will it let me
show the mini visualization window. Plus if I restore it from the toolbar
to its regular window and then quit it leaves media player still playing in
the background with no window at all. I have to go in and kill the process
to get it to stop. It's like there are 2 instances of the player running
somehow. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Scott

Found this at microsoft faqs.  I haven't tried this yet, but will since I
have the same problem.  Hope it works.

2.5  Why doesn't the mini Player work after I install Windows Media Player
10?
In some cases, the mini Player might not function or the buttons might not
be available (they might appear "grayed out") after you install Windows
Media Player 10. To fix the problem, try restarting your computer.

If the problem persists, do the following:
1.. Right-click an open area of the Windows taskbar (such as below the
system clock), point to Toolbars, and then click Windows Media Player.
This removes the check mark beside Windows Media Player and turns off mini
Player mode.
 2.. Restart your computer.
3.. Reinstall Windows Media Player 10 (do not try to remove your existing
copy of Windows Media Player 10 first).
 4.. Restart your computer again.

I gave it a shot and it didn't help. I ended up doing a fresh install of
Windows (it had been a while) and now it seems to be working. I noticed the
problem didn't happen until I had installed a program that installed the
Windows Media Encoder 9 software. Don't know if that had anything to do
with the miniplayer not working but it seemed an odd coincidence.
