Hello. i recently upgraded to version 10.00.00.3646 of Windows Media Player
and ever since then i can't play music. I have the music on my hard drive and
it works in other music playing applications such as winamp and Realplayer
but when i play it in WMP no sound comes through my speakers at all, even
though WMP shows it playing in the "Now Playing" section.

any thoughts?

I have the exact same problem.  I would appreciate help, too.

Had the same problem.  Nothing worked.  Deleted with control panel and
windows explorer everything connected to WMP.  Rebooted between each action.
Reinstalled everything new.  Sound and movies work so good now I had to DL
from Movielink to test it.  You may want to test by removing, rebooting,
reinstalling.

Thank you very much. I had removed and reinstalled, but forgot to reboot.
After rebooting, I can now hear the music again.

I learned the hard way when my guestbook -
http://military.accaw.org/guestbook/  - quit working , would not publish ,
music would not play because I thought with NT or XP you did not have to
reboot but now I reboot everytime I install, delete, change, or eat Gumbo or
Jambalaya;
