The difference should be that the right-click button operates on current app
regardless of mouse position. So you want to launch WMP. At that point it
should be offscreen. If you press the right-click button on the keyboard,
that should give you the context menu for WMP. This would let you choose
"Switch to Full Mode" and escape the skin you're stuck in.
Does this not happen? You can reset the X and Y manually too, but the above
is just a little easier in theory.

Sorry, but doesn't work. Tried again today as proposed by yourself.
No action - no pop-up menu at all when I click the "right-click-button" on
my keybord".
Of course the button works with other applications.

Reset the values SkinX and SkinY under
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Player\Skins - or even just
remove the value for "CurrentSkin"...

Sorry, no effect.
I even copied the skin-registry values from another user on the same system
(without these problems) into the registry of the current user. Didn't help
either.
