Media Player 10. All the help says you can sort the Library by clicking on
the gray bar for the column to sort by, but it does not work. I am familair
on how to do this in Excel, and the gray bar shows a down arrow or up arrow
based on what was toggled by clicking on the gray bar.

No such arrows in Media Player.
How can I sort?

It doesn't work that way for custom playlists.  You can only sort in the Now
Playing list when working with custom playlists.  Odd but true, and centered
around the notion that WMP shouldn't auto-sort your custom built (and thus
custom arranged) playlists.
