I want to listen to a particular radio station not listed in the media
player. I have been able to listen using winamp, but would like to use media
player since it is installed and seems to be popular. Why can't I make it
play a station that I choose?

IF the station allows direct links to its stream, you can do it this way:

Go to the web site of the radio station and click on the 'listen now'  link (or something similar). When Windows Media Player starts, position your cursor on the player itself, right click and select Properties. You will see the link to the stream. Copy the link and create a shortcut from it in your My Music folder.
